Mary Lockhart has been a Co-operator since she could think, and a Socialist since she could feel.
She is a former Chair of the Scottish Co-operative Party, and worked as a Co-operative Affairs Officer throughout Eastern Scotland for the Co-operative Group.
A professional journalist, Mary has a post-graduate degree in International Politics, and is currently writing a book about Defence, Security and the National Interest. She is an inveterate campaigner across a range of Co-operative and other issues, particularly those involving democratic ownership and control of public services and utilities. Her current co-operative focus is on housing, the services contracted out to the private sector, and co-operative reformation of the Welfare State to protect it from TTIP and further privatisation.
She campaigns with the Scottish Co-operative Party, the Labour Party, the STUC, and with Mrs Barbour’s Army which she re-established in 2013 after a gap of nearly 100 years!
