Martin Tiedemann 24th July 2012 Summerfest – the Co-operative Party’s National Training Event – is changing. **UPDATE** Speakers include Chris Evans MP; Stephen Yeo of the Co-operative College; Karin Christiansen; Ben Maloney and Stewart Owadally of Movement for Change; Kirsty McNeill; Gavin Shuker MP This year, our event takes place Friday 3 August to Monday 6 August at the Woodbrooke Study Centre in Birmingham. At the event, members will be able to hear from Parliamentarians and co-operative practitioners and get training on new campaign ideas as well as parliamentary selections. The three learning outcomes of Summerfest are: for members to know more about the breadth and values of the co-operative movement; for members to be able to lead local campaigns on co-operative issues; for those interested in Parliamentary selection to know the Co-operative Party process and the priorities of our NEC in looking for new parliamentary candidates. On Saturday, we are partnering with Movement for Change for an all-day training module on local campaigns and adapting our structures to become more engaged in communities and doing more to support co-operative development and ideas. This training is particularly relevant for branch officers as well as all members wanting to get more involved in campaigning. A particular focus of this training will be the campaign to end legal loan sharking and promote credit unions, spearheaded by Labour & Co-operative MP Stella Creasy. Stella and Movement for Change have developed a campaign pack being launched by Ed Miliband. Join Ed Miliband, Tom Watson and Stella Creasy this Thursday to launch the campaign. On Sunday 5 August, in addition to the main programme of Summerfest, there are limited places for parliamentary selection training with one of the Labour Party’s foremost trainers, Kirsty McNeill. Because spaces for this are limited, please specify your requirements when booking. The cost of the weekend is £270 for the weekend including three nights’ accommodation and meals. Day delegate rates and a rate for young members are available. We can put you in touch with your local party who can also help with the cost of the event or travel. A formal booking form can be downloaded here: Summerfest Registration Form (Word) To book or for further information please email Linda on firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 020 7367 4170.
