Some members have been in touch with questions about whether or not they can participate in the Labour Leadership contest we hope the information below clarifies the position.

As in previous UK Labour Leadership elections, Co-operative Party membership does not entitle you to a vote.

Therefore, if you would like to take part in the process you will need to meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be an eligible Labour Party member who became a member on or before 12 January 2016.
  • Make a one-off payment of £25 to become a Registered Supporter. Applications will open at 5pm on Monday 18 July and close at 5pm on Wednesday 20 July.
  • Be a member of an affiliated trade union, socialist society or other affiliated organisation and sign up individually as an Affiliated Supporter to the Labour Party by the freeze date.

Being a member of the Co-operative Party does not entitle you to become an Affiliated Supporter as the Co-operative Party does not affiliate to the Labour Party at a UK level.
