The Co-operative Party is the party of the co-operative movement. We're the fourth largest party in the UK, with 24 MPs and over 1600 councillors. At the upcoming General Election, we're standing nearly 50 candidates across the country – from Falmouth to Dundee.
At the Co-operative Party, we believe that ownership matters. It's why we're fighting to grow the number of co-operatives in the UK: from employee-owned businesses to fan-owned football clubs. It's why we're backing community-owned energy production, to give local people power and profit from renewables built in their communities. It's why we're calling for communities to be given the right to buy pubs, shops and community centres when they're put up for sale, so they stay locally-owned rather than sold-off to developers. We want to build a Britain where power and wealth are shared, and everyone has a say and a stake in our economy and society.
The essence of co-operation is that things work best when we worked together. It's why for nearly 100 years, we've had an electoral pact with Labour and stood joint "Labour & Co-operative" candidates. But we're also a registered independent political party with our own membership, leadership and policy platform. We're fighting for co-operative values at decision-making tables across the country, from town halls to the Houses of Parliament. But all that is only possible because we have thousands of members and supporters on our side.
