SOUTH EAST REGIONAL CONFERENCE

On Saturday 1st February 2020, the Co-operative Party's South East regional conference will take place in Guildford.

There will be a particular focus on some of the big challenges our economy and communities face across the region, a spotlight on policy, as well as showcasing co-operative solutions that can be expanded and supported to build the fairer future we so desperately need.

Sessions and Speakers:

  • 10:30: Welcome and introduction (Joe Fortune, Co-operative Party General Secretary).
  • 10:45-11:45: Policy Debate 1: Accountability and Corporate Governance. With:
    • Louise Eldridge, CORE Coalition
    • Janet Williamson, Trade Union Congress
    • Chaired by Joe Fortune, Co-operative Party.
  • 11:45: Being a Councillor: How to nominate candidates, manifesto ideas and other support (With Community the Union). With:
    • Cllr Anna Birley, Co-operative Party Policy Officer & Lambeth Council
    • Cllr Arran Neathey, Runnymede Borough Council
    • Melantha Chittenden, Community the Union
    • Ann Dally, Reading and West Oxfordshire Branch
  • 12:30: Co-operative Party Campaigning: Community Safety. With:
    • Cllr Robert Evans, Surrey County Council
    • Cllr Anna Birley, Co-operative Party Policy Officer
  • 13:15:  Lunch(a sandwich lunch is included with your registration fee)
  • 14:00: Community Business and Co-operative Development. With:
    • Lloyd Russell-Moyle, MP for Brighton Kemptown
    • Nick Bragger, Surrey Community Action
    • Cllr Alex Paterson, Medway Council
    • Lynda MacDermott, Co-operative Group Member Pioneer
  • 14:45: Policy Debate 2: Connectivity - Transport and Telecoms. With:
    • Laura Price, West Oxfordshire Community Transport
    • Angus Denny, Broadband for Surrey Hills
    • Chair: Lloyd Russell-Moyle, MP for Brighton Kemptown
  • 15:45: Summing Up and Next Steps. With:
    • Cllr Anna Birley, Co-operative Party Policy Officer
  • 16:00-17:00: South East Regional Party Annual General Meeting.

Registration is £10 (£5 concessions) which includes a sandwich lunch.

This event is open to non-members, so please share with friends, Labour Party and trade union colleagues.  You must register in advance to secure a place.

Travel:  The best way to travel to Guildford is by train or bus.  The Guildford Institute is a 15 minute walk from Guildford mainline station or 5 minutes from central Guildford's Friary Lane Bus depot.

Followed by South East Regional Party AGM from 4pm to 5pm
