SUMMARY:Co-op Conversations: The Power of Co-operative Care
DESCRIPTION:Co-operative care has the power transform England’s broken adult social care system. Extensive profit extraction has led to a care system which is marked by low quality standards\, low wages and an absence of specialist care. Not-profit co-operative care provides a solution which implements a democratic model which delivers better outcomes for workers\, care recipients and their families. \nWhile co-operative care is small scale in England\, it is commonplace in Italy\, Spain and South Korea. Evidence shows it can lead to higher standards\, better wages and increased staff retention. \nThe Co-operative Party believe growing co-operative care could be an integral part of achieving the Government’s commitment to double the size of the co-operative sector. \nOur new report\, The Power of Co-operation in Care\, speaks to care co-ops\, policy makers and academics on how central and local government can grow co-operative care provision across England. It provides recommendations on how this growth can reduce profit extraction and improve standards across the care system. \nJoin Sharon Lowrie – CEO\, Be Caring and Henry Drumm – Equal Care Co-op for this Co-op Conversations online event to learn more about the report and its findings as we make the case for reforming the care system across England
