SUMMARY:Co-operation Live - Worker Buyouts & a British Marcora Law
DESCRIPTION:Co-operation Live:\nWorker Buyouts & a British Marcora Law\nWednesday 27th October at 6.30pm on Zoom\nIn Italy\, when a business is failing\, its workers have the right to buy out all – or part – of it with financial support and specialist advice. This is known as Marcora Law. \nMembers are invited to take part in this zoom meeting as we discuss Co-operative Party plans to campaign for a British Marcora-style law as we think that workers know their businesses best and the biggest stake in its success. Giving workers the initial capital to buy out and rebuild a business would protect jobs\, build the economy\, provide a great return on investment for the government and creat hundreds of worker owned businesses. \nSpeakers include Christina Rees MP\, Camillo De Berardinis – the Amministratore Delegato at the Cooperazione Finanza Impresa in Italy\, Derek Walker – Wales Co-op Centre and Mathew Lawrence – CommonWealth. \nThis facilitated event will be live captioned for greater accessibility.

SUMMARY:Co-operation Live- Violence\, Abuse\, Threats: It's not part of the job
DESCRIPTION:Co-operation Live \nViolence\, Abuse\, Threats: It’s not part of the job\nWednesday 25th August at 6.30pm on Zoom\nOn Tuesday 24 August 2021 a new Law which gives retail workers the protection they need to combat violence\, threats and abuse comes into force in Scotland. \nThis ground-breaking legislation was supported by MSPs after the Co-op Party and USDAW’s long-running campaign led to the Protection of Workers (Retail and Age-restricted Goods and Services) (Scotland) Bill\, successfully steered through the Scottish Parliament by Daniel Johnson MSP. \nIt’s not a one off – since 2020\, there’s been an increase in attacks on retail workers – the very people who have got us through this crisis. \nJoin this facilitated debate as we hear from Labour & Co-op Party politicians Daniel Johnson MSP\, Alex Norris MP and a Member of the Wales Senedd (tbc) about why its so important that England and Wales follow Scotland’s lead and what we can do to persuade the UK Government to back similar legislation here too. Chaired by Monica Lennon MSP. \nThis event will include a facilitated Q&A and will be close captioned for greater accessibility.
