Love It Bright

Welcome to the Love it? list it! resource hub

Love it? List it! is the Co-operative Party’s newest campaign to help communities take the first step to protect the loved local places like parks, pubs and post offices from being sold-off.

We're aiming to list over 1,000 local spots as "assets of community value" and fighting to give communities more powers to protect and eventually own the local places that bind them together.

This page is for Co-operative Party members to get the resources they need to make their local campaigning a success.

Five steps to listing a community Asset

Step one: community mapping

Have a discussion with your branch, with your councillors or fellow candidates or with your friends and neighbours about what matters to them. You could do this online or in person. Draw up a list of the top ten spots in your area which are used and loved the most by your community.

Read our briefing about community mapping

Step two: contact your council

Different councils in England have different expectations of what evidence they want to see with the applications; and it can vary a little depending on what it is that you want to list. So, get in contact with the council to make sure that you provide the level of detail that they require.

(Skip this step if you live in Scotland or Wales)

Step three: fill in the form and gather 21 signatures

Once life returns to normal you can use our petition form to get 21 local electors to sign the form and fill in the form. In England you should complete the form with the evidence that the council recommends you collect. In Scotland and Wales you can fill in form so that we know a little bit about what your community values.

But until life returns to normal, then we'll create a digital petition for you to use once you've sent j.butler@party.coop your shortlist.

Step four: send it off

In England send off the form and the 21 signatures to your local council, and send us a copy; email us a scan or a photo of the signatures to j.butler@party.coop , post a photocopy and send to us, or upload a scan using the form on this page.

In Scotland and Wales send us the information and we will contact our MSPs and AMs about it so that they can use it to lobby for changes to legislation.

Step five: tell people about what you’ve done

Include it on your leaflets, direct mail, tweet about it using #loveitlistit , tell people on Facebook, write a letter to the local paper using our guide.
