It's time for a Right to Food in Scots Law

Rhoda Grant 9 Mar 19 i

Too many people in Scotland are struggling to feed themselves and their families, but food poverty is not getting the attention it sorely needs from the Scottish Government. In one of the wealthiest nations in the world, no one should go hungry.

In February 2024, Labour & Co-operative MSP Rhoda Grant lodged a new Bill in Holyrood to enshrine a Right to Food in Scots Law, to help end hunger in Scotland. The Bill has recently received the support required to move to the next stage of the process. But to become a law, it will need further support to keep this crucial item on the agenda.

We know the Scottish public supports this bill: recent polling shows an overwhelming 81% of people think there should be a legal Right to Food.
