Did you mean Labour... & Co-operative?

At the Co-operative Party we’re proud of our movement, our members and our co-operators in elected office.

As one of the fastest growing political parties in the UK and as the 4th largest party in British politics with 43 Members of Parliament, 16 Members of the Welsh Senedd, 11 Members of the Scottish Parliament, 8 Metro Mayors and over 1,600 Councillors – it's safe to say that across the country, co-operators are making a difference in their communities and making their mark.

We know our Labour & Co-operative members take pride in their joint status because it’s more than just an addition to a title: it highlights their commitment to building that society where power and wealth are shared.

But too often, the Co-operative status of our joint Labour and Co-operative elected representatives is overlooked by the media: our representatives are mislabelled, our party is not given a fair allocation of media time and representation, and the strength and size of our movement goes unmentioned.

We're on a mission to change that. To educate people about out movement, what it means to be co-operative, and to be given the same representation given to other parties. We're starting by writing to the media to ensure all of our representatives are correctly labelled as Labour & Co-operative.

Will you join us by adding your name to our letter and telling others you're proud to be “...& Co-operative" too?

Dear Broadcasters,

As Co-operative Party members, we are writing to you to ask that when a Labour & Co-operative representative is featured across your coverage that you correctly label them as such.

In 1927 the Co-operative Party entered an electoral agreement with the Labour Party and we have had candidates and representatives who have been Labour and Co-operative ever since.

This agreement remains significant to us today as one of the fastest growing political parties in the UK and as the 4th largest party in British politics with 43 Members of Parliament, 16 Members of the Welsh Senedd, 11 Members of the Scottish Parliament, 8 Metro Mayors and over 1,600 Councillors – it's safe to say that across the country, co-operators are making a difference in their communities and making their mark.

At the Co-operative Party we’re proud of our movement, our members and our values - we know our Labour & Co-operative representatives take pride in their joint status too, to them the Co-operative part is just as important, because it’s more than just an addition to a title: it highlights their commitment to building that society where power and wealth are shared.

We believe it is only fair and appropriate that the Co-operative Party, with its long-standing history and significant contribution to UK politics, is afforded the opportunity to promote our representatives accurately

Therefore, we request that all broadcasters that any coverage which includes Labour and Co-operative representatives ensure they are correctly labelled in any subtitling or description.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

We look forward to your response.
