Ask your MSP to celebrate the UN year of co-operatives

Labour & Co-operative MSP Paul Sweeney has tabled a motion asking Scottish Parliament to officially celebrate the UN International Year of the Co-operatives.

The UN has designated 2025 as the year of the co-operatives, with the theme being 'Co-operatives Build A Better World'.

Co-operatives have a long and storied history in Scotland, boosting the economy and supporting communities. Today, there are more than 600 co-operatives operating in Scotland, with a total income of almost £2 billion pounds.

We think it's time to celebrate the contribution co-operatives have made to Scotland, and get excited about the difference they can make in the future.

The United Nations has designated 2025 as the International Year of the Co-operatives, the theme of the year is ‘Co-operatives Build a Better World.’ A motion has been tabled by Paul Sweeney MSP in the Scottish Parliament to celebrate this year. I am writing to you to ask you to support this motion and ensure that it can be debated in the Scottish Parliament. There are around 600 co-operatives in Scotland with an income of £1.9billion and 700,000 Scots are members of co-operatives. I hope that their contribution to Scotland and potential to contribute more in the future can be debated in the Scottish Parliament.
