diverse councils survey

The Co-op Party is currently carrying out a project to understand the diversity of Councillors in England, and how we can improve their experience.

This was inspired by the Welsh LGA Diversity in Local Democracy Project which set out ambitious cross-party proposals to get a step change in the diversity of Welsh Local Government.

A group of Co-operative Councillors are seeking your views on what could work in England, and what measures councils can put in place to ensure Councillors are reflective of the communities they represent.

take the survey

Thinking about your council, we would welcome your thoughts on how you feel about diversity in your council, but also whether you are taking any measures to make being a Councillor more accessible.

All responses are anonymous, and we will only get in touch if you have best practice you would like to share.

About the Project

Councillors represent their community, so we are keen to understand how Councillors reflect the diversity of their community, particularly those with protected characteristics (age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation).
