#ProtectTheFuture: Back the Sustainable Development Bill

Sustainable

It's a simple, common-sense idea: when a Government makes decisions, they should take into account not just the needs of the current generation, but future generations too.

Yet all too often, we know on short-term wins are too often prized over long-term strategy. This is especially true on key issues like climate change, where decisions being made right now are affected what kind of planet we leave behind for future generations.

That's why our MSP Sarah Boyack has proposed a new Bill – the Wellbeing and Sustainable Development Bill – in the Scottish Parliament. This Bill will embed sustainable development in law and hold decision-makers accountable for their decisions and their impact on people and planet.

This is neither a new nor untested idea. The Welsh Parliament passed a Wellbeing of Future Generation Act in 2015. This was a global first and has already made a difference in embedding long-termism into decision-making.

We need a Government that meets the needs of present generations without damaging the chances of future generations. Take action now and we'll add you name to the official list of backers of our response to the official Scottish Parliament consultation on the Bill.

Stand with us, stand with future generations and the future of our planet, and back the Bill now.
