Whether for fun, fitness, or friendship, sport plays an important role for many of us.
Playing a game of football with colleagues after work. Taking the kids swimming every other weekend. Meeting new friends at a weekly badminton club. Getting in a quick workout on your lunch break.
We all have a different relationship to sport, but there is one thing all of the above have in common: They rely on our local sports and leisure facilities.
As a society, our sports facilities are crucial to our health and wellbeing, and help bring together communities. That's why it is concerning that so many places across the country are in danger of losing their local leisure centres.
We're taking action to stop this. We are supporting a new Bill, which seeks to safeguard our sports facilities by automatically listing them as Assets of Community Value (ACVs).
This Bill will give sports facilities like swimming pools and leisure centres additional protection from closure. More than that, it will give communities more power over the facilities that matter most.
