The Co-operative Party is very sad to learn of the death of Scottish Labour and Co-operative MSP Helen Eadie.  Helen had been the Chair of the Co-operative Party Group of MSPs.  She had served the Party over a number of years both as an MSP and as a Fife councillor.  Helen was passionate about the communities in Fife which she represented.  She was determined in her promotion of social justice and recognised that co-operative and mutual solutions often offered the route to social justice.  Above all Helen worked hard for her community and  for the Scottish Co-operative Party.

Paying tribute to Helen the leader of the Scottish Labour Party, Labour and Co-operative MSP Johann Lamont said, “Helen was very precious to her family.  She played an important part in helping to establish the credibility of Holyrood.  She will also be fondly remembered within the Scottish co-operative movement.  Her commitment to delivering change in our communities was the essence of her political beliefs and values.”

Gareth Thomas MP, Chair of the Co-operative Party said, “It is a sad day for the Co-operative Party with the passing of Helen Eadie.   She was proud of Scotland and a great advocate for the cause of co-operation.  She will be much missed.”

Labour leader Ed Miliband MP said, “I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of Helen Eadie.  A passionate, determined and committed MSP, she will be sorely missed.”

The thoughts and best wishes of the Co-operative Party are with Helen Eadie’s family at this difficult time.
