benwest 15th October 2014 Blog News releases Share Tweet I know from the work I’ve read and seen and the discussions we’ve had in Parliament how important the work that’s coming out of this party is for the Co-operative party manifesto and also for the next Labour party manifesto. The work which is happening around payday lending and credit unions to make sure that we expand the capacity of credit unions, that we implement the Financial Conduct Authority’s recommendations on the pay day industry, we look at that issue of payroll deductions there’s some very important work there which many people have been involved in including Cathy [Jamieson] and Stella [Creasy] and others. We want to make sure we get the armed forces credit union in our manifesto We can build upon on what we’ve already done on energy and tom will say more by this by strengthening the away in which co-operative municipal and community owned energy can make a difference to energy supply I want to expand the co-operative school network in next parliament and find new ways to really involve parents and staff and the wider community in giving every one of our children the best chance I want to see more co-operatives in childcare and in housing, look at how tax system can back social enterprise, I talked about the British investment bank and on banking transparency there is more the next Labour government can do with your support. There is important work being done for Ed Miliband and I and Peter Hunt in these areas. I know the Co-operative party proposals are really moving ahead and I’m looking forward to being part of discussions of the manifesto as we get toward the general elections – the Co-operative party manifesto and the Labour manifesto as well. In difficult times doing things in a fairer way, tackling various vested interests, transforming our economy, but doing so without making irresponsible commitments we can’t pay for, that is something we’re doing together, in co-operation – the Labour and Co-operative parties. Thank you for all your work on and we’re looking forward to seeing results.
