According to new data released by the Co-op earlier this summer, criminal acts in retail stores have jumped 35% since the start of the year, with more than 175,000 incidents recorded – amounting to almost 1,000 incidents a day. Frontline store workers had seen physical assaults increase year on year by 30%, while antisocial behaviour and verbal abuse rose by 20%.
