This Black History Month let’s pay tribute to those who’ve inspired us.

This October, we’re proud to celebrate Black History Month. This year’s theme, celebrating our sisters, shines a light on the remarkable contributions of Black women.

This theme holds immense significance as it encourages us to reflect upon and honour the exceptional achievements of Black women.  Through acknowledging these women, we can inspire positive change, promote diversity and inclusion, and pay homage to the legacies of those who’ve paved the way for all of us.

Black women have often played pivotal roles in shaping our world, yet their contributions are often overshadowed or overlooked. By dedicating this year’s Black History Month to them, we’re casting a well-deserved spotlight on their achievements, providing the recognition and appreciation they’ve long been due.

My greatest inspiration is a Black woman, my grandmother, who passed away many years ago. Throughout my life, she’s always been a shining example of strength, determination, and unwavering character.   At a very young age, she made the courageous decision to start her own business and embark on a new path of running her own bakery, grocery stores & market stalls competing in a men’s world. This bold step in pursuit of her dreams demonstrated her resilience in the face of adversity and her unyielding determination to make a difference. Though uneducated she made a big success of her business, employed educated people & was my sponsor to UK.

Her life’s story, filled with moments of excellence and dedication, serves as a powerful reminder of the potential within each of us.

I draw inspiration from her life and countless others like her, knowing their stories of triumph can motivate us to overcome challenges, break down barriers and strive for success in our own lives.

I hope this year’s celebration of Black History Month serves as an inspiration to all of us, irrespective of our backgrounds.
