Co-op Party Live – Policy:

Join us for the launch of our new policy paper, ‘Empowering communities through empowered councils’. The policy paper focuses on how local councils and councillors can build a more co-operative relationship with communities to deliver transformative change to their local area.

When communities are empowered, they can be central to improving local economies, high streets and town centres. Councillors have a vital role to play in working in partnership with community groups to create the conditions for change – whether that’s saving the local pub, producing locally owned renewable energy or delivering essential services.

The paper explores how the English Devolution & Community Empowerment Bill will shift power out from Whitehall and Westminster and towards councils and communities. This includes the introduction of new powers such as the Community Right to Buy which can save and regenerate much loved assets and institutions. The new Pride in Place Programme is another key feature – which can help embed closer working relationships between empowered communities and councils for the long-term.

To find out more, join on Wednesday 7th January at 6pm, where we will hear from Co-operative Party Policy Officer, Daniel Monaghan, on the new paper.
