Co-op Party Live – Policy: Local Power Plan

For decades, Co-op Party members have argued that communities should have the power to generate and own their own energy. That’s why the Co-operative Party worked with communities, the community energy sector and government to turn that idea into a serious national policy. What began with a handful of pioneering communities taking control of their own energy is now being recognised as a central part of Britain’s energy future.

Yesterday, the government announced the biggest investment in community energy in our country’s history. £1bn of public investment in energy projects owned by communities represents a radical shift in energy ownership, and it’s needed now more than ever. Now, the work begins to make sure this investment delivers for communities.
