From youth clubs in the village hall to coffee mornings in the community centre, these are the building blocks of a strong community. They wouldn't be possible without the dedication of volunteers, the support of locals and of course – the community buildings and spaces that make it all possible.
These spaces create opportunities to connect, organise, celebrate and support one another. Over many years, they have often been responsible for helping to hold communities together through good times and bad. They are essential, important spaces.
However, many of these buildings are ageing. They require repairs and modernisation, and it's often a struggle to fund the work that keep these spaces going, particularly without price increases that would make it unaffordable for the groups who need the spaces most.
We need to do everything we can to ease the financial pressures facing community buildings and the groups that are keeping them going. That's why we're calling for VAT relief on repairs for community buildings.
Museums, art galleries, zoos and similar are already eligible for a VAT refund because of the valuable service they provide to the public. We think our community buildings are just as important. Do you agree? Add your name and show your support for our community spaces.
