Co-op conversations

You are invited to hear from and join in conversation with the Leader of Preston Council, Labour and Co-operative’s Cllr Matthew Brown, as we delve into the work to create the North West Mutual community bank.

Matthew and a team of volunteers, fellow councillors and officers have been working to build North West Mutual in recent years, with council support one key aspect.

Joining Matthew on the call will be James Moore, founder of the Community Savings Bank Association. James has over 25 years boardroom experience in international business in manufacturing, household goods retailing and financial services in the UK, Ireland, China, Europe and Africa having served on the boards of both private and public companies.

North West Mutual will be owned by its members, following in the tradition of the mutual sector that has served its communities for over two centuries.

North West Mutual Ltd is a registered Co-operative Society, working to co-operative values and principles.

Its aims include:

  • 60 physical bank branches across the North West
  • Extended opening hours including after 6pm to facilitate needs of its members and modern society
  • 95% of the North West population will live within a 30 minute drive of a branch
  • Providing cash facilities to small businesses
  • Provision of current accounts, online banking, mortgages, loans, debit cards and savings facilities

Would you like to hear me, support, or give your thoughts?
