Club together: Save our social clubs – Co-operative Party

Club Together:
Save Our Social Clubs

LET'S CLUB TOGETHER SANS EMOJI

Once the beating heart of communities, social clubs have been in steady decline – with many formerly thriving clubs closing in the past decade.

At their height, social clubs operated as local pubs, music venues, bingo halls, community centres and so much more. They were the foundation of community in so many parts of the country, trusted by local people as a place to genuinely call home.

The majority of social clubs have always been co-operatives – owned and operated by their members. Throughout their history, clubs gave millions of working people a route to education, training, and ownership of assets.

So at a time when the need for shared spaces has never felt greater, we believe it's time for a revival of the social club movement. We cannot stand by and allow these clubs to be consigned to history. It's time to forge a new path for social clubs, one fit for the 21st century.

That's why our new Community Britain campaign, Club Together, is calling for social clubs to be given the support they need to thrive. We need a new Social Clubs Charter, agreed by government in partnership with clubs and their members, to set a new direction for the clubs movement.

A new Social Clubs Charter gives us the opportunity to define social clubs and their renewed purpose for a new century of challenges. If you think the need for social clubs in our communities has never been greater, add your name in support to join our campaign.
