We’ve seen it all before. The local pub bought up and converted into luxury flats; the local football club gutted and forced to sell off their ground; the local high street blighted by vacant shops.

Communities across the UK are facing these challenges – but they’re already fighting back.

Across the country, people are coming together to buy at-risk pubs, shops, venues and other vital spaces – bringing them back to life through community ownership. All they need now is real power and real funding to take back control of the places they love.

Thanks to our Local Ownership campaign, the government has already committed to introducing a Community Right to Buy in the Community Empowerment Bill now progressing through Parliament. This would give community groups the first chance to buy local assets when they come up for sale. But we must ensure the Bill becomes law despite Conservative and Reform opposition – and that communities receive the funding and support they need to make this new Right a reality.
