Online LGBTQ+ History Month Event

This year marks 20 years since Section 28, the law that banned “promotion of homosexuality” in the UK, was repealed.

But while LGBTQ+ education and visibility has come a long way since then, the echoes of Section 28 can still be heard today: from the 200,000 people who recently signed a petition to remove LGBTQ+ education from the national curriculum in England, to Florida’s notorious “Don’t Say Gay” law.

Education is one of the seven core principles of the co-operative movement, which is why this LGBTQ+ History Month, LGBTQ+ Co-operators will be holding an event on the importance of LGBTQ+-inclusive education to the furthering of equality, looking at how far we’ve come since Section 28, and how far we have to go.

Join us on Zoom on Thursday 23rd February at 6pm for an excellent panel of expert speakers including:

🐝 Baroness Thornton, Shadow Spokesperson for Equalities and Women’s Issues

🐝 Olivia Blake MP

🐝 Rico Jacob Chace, Director of TransActual

🐝 Victoria Newbould, Inclusion Lead at Alton College

This online event will be live captioned for greater accessibility.
