As innovation and technological advances transform the way we live and work, the co-operative movement must be ready to lead and adapt to help create a more equitable economy. In a shifting world of work, co-operatives have the potential to provide security, fairness, and accountability.
This online event will explore how co-operative models can harness emerging technologies for the common good, creating democratic platforms that empower both workers and consumers. We will discuss how the co-operative model can benefit freelancers, the self-employed, and agency workers with improved pay, working conditions, and flexibility.
Joining us are Rose Marley, CEO of Co-operatives UK, on the importance and impact of freelance co-operatives and discuss how these can become more commonplace across the UK and Patrick Hurley MP, the Chair of the Social, Co-operative and Community Economy All-Party Group, on the importance of the Government supporting co-operative growth and his experiences supporting new co-operatives prior to entering parliament. We will also hear directly from a tech co-operative on how it has developed, the challenges it has faced and future plans for growth.
This event is part of the Co-operative Party’s member-led Policy Process – which this year focuses on the ‘future co-operative economy’. There’s still time to take part, find out more here: Policy Process 2025
