For so many towns and cities across the country, social clubs have been the beating hearts of communities. They have been vital spaces for people to come together, but have been under pressure for decades and, with the impact of the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis, these community lifelines are fast declining. These are places where people congregate to enjoy shared activities and events and, as such are generally run as either member-owned co-operatives or membership-based charities, meaning they are run by the communities that they support.
The Co-operative Party is committed to do all we can to strengthen communities across the UK and give them the rights to protect these vital assets. Join us on Zoom as we discuss policy proposals that will work to recover and renew social clubs and expand the democratic economy.
