The ongoing cost of living crisis continues to hit communities hard with many people having to choose to turn off their heating for substantial times of the day or not to put the heating on at all. Last winter, the Co-operative Party worked with the charity Warm Welcome as they drove a collective movement to provide free, warm, welcoming and friendly spaces across the UK and offer everyone the access to a warm and welcoming space in their local community so they can connect with others, make new friends, and feel part of their community.
There are now over 7000 Warm Welcome Spaces across the UK which come in all shapes and sizes: community centres, libraries, churches, community cafes, arts centres, local businesses, and schools, but there are still many communities who are not able to provide this. ]
We are delighted that speakers David Barclay- Campaign Director, Warm Welcome and Cllr Francesca Brennan – Inverclyde Council are able to join us to provide an update on how Labour & Co-operative councillors and Party members can register local community spaces in your own ward, town or village and work towards Warm Welcome’s ambition to grow their network of spaces across every part of the UK, so everyone can access warm and welcoming space.
