Event Details: High streets are the beating hearts of our communities – but they face an uncertain future. Covid-19 and repeated lockdowns leaves much of the retail sector with an uncertain prognosis. Even before the pandemic high streets faces a litany of existential challenges: competition from online retailers, increases to rents and business rates, reduced footfall due to bank branch closures, the uncertainty of Brexit, and cuts to police putting frontline retail workers at risk.
Join us on Zoom to hear more on the Co-operative Party’s campaign to re-invigorate our high streets and town centres.
With guest speakers: Baroness Wilcox of Newport; Cllr Doina Cornell (Leader Stroud District Council); Arooj Shah (Leader Oldham Council); Joy Allen (PCC for Durham) and Emma Foody (Asst Gen. Secretary Co-op Party); Carrie Aspin, Senior Researcher USDAW. Chair: Cllr Joanna West (chair Co-op Party Women’s Network Steering Committee).
