Do you know where your council’s money is being spent? Billions are missing from our public purse because some companies avoid paying corporation tax, and local government money could be supporting that.

At every level of Government, we need to tackle tax avoidance and promote businesses who pay their fair share – starting in your local area. There is much councils can do to back fair tax in their own area, from demanding greater transparency to promoting local businesses who do pay their fair share.

20 Councils have now signed the Councils for Fair Tax Declaration [https://fairtaxmark.net/supporters/councils-for-fair-tax/], committing them to leading by example in their own tax conduct and also campaigning for greater powers to take fair tax into account during procurement. If you haven’t already joined them then now is your chance!

We will be holding a quick online lunchtime briefing on Thursday 19th May at 12:30pm, where you can find out how to take action as a Co-operative Councillor. Make sure you sign up to take part
