Combating loneliness

Loneliness affects millions of people in the UK every year and is a key driver of poor mental health, which has been exacerbated by the Covid pandemic. Reducing loneliness is a major step towards a mentally healthy society.

Our connection to other people and our community is fundamental to protecting our mental health and, as part of Mental Health Awareness Week, as we discuss the impact of loneliness on our mental wellbeing and the practical steps we can take to address it including how the Co-op Foundation’s Lonely, Not Alone campaign has helped thousands of young people tackle loneliness, by awarding grants to UK-wide youth projects.

With Rosena Allin-Khan MP – Shadow Cabinet Minister for Mental Health – and Paul Gerrard – Campaigns & Public Affairs Director, the Co-op.
