Modern slavery is a scourge of our time. It’s time to change the law to guarantee its victims the chance to rebuild their lives.

The Modern Slavery (Victim Support) Bill begins its passage through Parliament in the House of Lords today, and I and other Labour and Coop MPs and Peers will be working with Lord McColl of Dulwich, the Bill's sponsor, to ensure that it becomes law in this Parliamentary session.

For decades, communities have been told that their only option for regeneration is to compete against one another to incentivise big business to set up shop, and that waiting for inward investment is the only path to growth.
