Many Co-operative Party branches and party councils hold bank accounts with the Co-operative Bank or Unity Trust. In recent years there have been increases in the charges that both banks apply to some accounts.

Co-operative Bank

If you are with the Co-operative Bank, please note that you are eligible for free banking through a Community Directplus Account as your branch or party council is part of a registered co-operative.

If you are currently paying a monthly fee for your Co-operative Bank account, please get in touch with Party Head Office and we can help you transfer to the free account.

Unity Trust

Unity Trust applies charges of £6 per month for its accounts, however Co-operative Party branches and party councils are eligible for a discounted rate of £25 per year.

If you are currently paying the monthly fee, you should contact Unity Trust to change your account.

Dormant Accounts

If your branch or party council has an account that you cannot access because you have lost contact with the signatories, Head Office is able to remove the old signatories and allow the current officers access to the account.

If you are aware of such accounts, please let us know as it means that we can ensure that Co-operative Party funds are only accessed by current and authorised officers of the Party and that the balances can be used to develop the Party locally.

Action Points
  • Check your account fees
Get in touch if you are paying too much for your branch or party council account.
