There is a vacancy on the NEC for one of the two members who represent our elected representatives i.e. official Co-operative Members of the Scottish Parliament, Welsh Parliament, London Assembly, Police & Crime Commissioners, Elected Mayors and Councillors. The two seats are gender-balanced and, as one seat is already held by Paul Sweeney MSP, this vacancy must be filled by a woman.

Self-nominations are now invited for candidates for an election by and from official Co-operative elected representatives, to serve on the NEC for the remainder of the current NEC term (to June 2026).

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 9 August 2024.  Before completing the nomination form below, please ensure that you read the NEC Handbook to ensure that you are familiar with the role and responsibilities of the NEC and meet the requirements.

In addition to the requirements to serve as a member of the NEC (see NEC Handbook), you must be:

  • A current official Co-operative MSP, MS, AM, PCC, Elected Mayor or councillor (i.e. stood at your most recent election as Labour & Co-operative or were endorsed by the local Co-operative Party).
  • Have been a full member of the Co-operative Party for 6 months by the close of nominations (i.e. applied to join by 10 November 2023) and not be in arrears

Following close of nominations, there will be a ballot of all official Co-operative elected representatives to elect the second NEC member alongside Paul Sweeney MSP.
