Black History Month: Celebrating our Sisters

Join us as the Co-operative Party marks 2023’s Black History Month and highlights our pioneering black women who have blazed a trail as co-operators and in their communities…

This year’s BHM theme of ‘Celebrating Our Sisters‘ recognises the leadership, talent, and impact that black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change, and building communities.

Our online event will honour the achievements of our black women Co-operative Party members and elected representatives as we celebrate their accomplishments and encourage future generations to take care of themselves and their communities.

We have invited our speakers to share their own stories and explore their own journeys addressing themes such as resilience, self-care, and well-being. With:

  • Cllr Denise Scott McDonald – Dept Leader, Greenwich Council & President, Co-op National Members Council
  • Kate Osamor MP for Edmonton
  • Cllr Kemi Akinola – Leader, Wandsworth Council
  • Cllr Sharon Thompson – Dept Leader, Birmingham City Council
  • Chair: Cllr Abigail Marshall Katung – Co-operative Party NEC (representing the North of England).
