Credit unions are not-for-profit financial co-operatives, owned and governed by local residents. However, unlike make of the high street alternatives they have their interest rates capped at a maximum of 42.6%. In the UK the credit union sector has seen significant growth in recent years with membership doubling over the past decade.

To mark International Credit Union Day we’ll be discussing the work being done to champion a better way of doing business that support our communities.

Speakers will include Cheryl Gale, the CEO of London Plus Credit Union offering services to thousands of members across West London.

We’ll also discuss the Co-operative Party’s new guide highlighting some of the work Labour & Co-operative councillors are doing to support credit unions in their communities (click here to read more about the Guide).
