Co-op the greenest on the high street

Tonight's Money Programme on BBC Two at 2100 looks at moves by the large retailers to go green. Waste and energy are among the factors considered, to judge whether it is more hot air or greenwashing than real progress.

Mutuals care more about the environment

In the recent Budget, Gordon Brown promoted green mortgages, as pioneered by the Co-operative Bank, the Ecology Building Society and the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society. These mortgages are either only for green properties or include carbon offsetting costs.
